A rare Kashmiri Lacquered Papier-mâché Tea Caddy

Decorative papier-mâché of this type was a specialty of Kashmir and was made for both the local and European markets.

The present barrel shaped tea caddy is fitted with a metal liner and decorated with panels of tree leaves, intricate scroll works and floral motifs.

The base bears a sticker, that seems to be original maker’s mark that reads: “Guaranteed handmade M Quasim & Bro Dal Gate India (Kashmir)”.
